In 2024, a prominent Georgia Republican officeholder considered launching an independent campaign for national office, positioning himself as a principled conservative who had broken with Trump. A national advocacy group commissioned Nesbitt & Parrinello to expose this “independent” transformation as calculated opportunism and reveal his far-right history and views. Though he ultimately chose not to launch his national campaign, our research provided a roadmap for countering similar attempts by Republicans to rebrand themselves as independents without actually changing their positions on the issues that matter most to voters.
