Nesbitt Research provided research for a Democratic gubernatorial candidate in South Carolina during the 2018 election cycle. The candidate was a Major in the South Carolina Army National Guard and previously served in combat in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. Our research powered the candidate’s narrative by documenting the candidate’s military achievements, including his Purple Heart, as well as his public record backing legislation to support military families. In addition to analyzing military records, Nesbitt Research utilized legal and legislative records to demonstrate the candidate’s winning record as an attorney in private practice, and his commitment to causes like environment friendly technology and funding for public schools. However our research also flagged that his campaign received contributions from a company embroiled in a state corruption scandal, and a state utility company infamous for a failed project funded by its customers.
